Abstract

This article aims to determine the perceptions about the elderly of the students who are studying in Sakarya University Vocational School Of Health Services Elderly Care Program. The perception about ageing and elderly of elderly care technicians, who have a very important place in Elderly Care Services, will affect the quality of elderly care services. In order to reach a desired result in this direction, it is important to determine perceptions of elderly care students about the elderly and ageing. Additionally in this study, the concepts of aging and old age were mentioned and information about the elderly care program was given. This study was conducted on 125 students studying at Sakarya University Vocational School Of Health Services Elderly Care Program. Findings obtained in the research are as follows: 75.2% of respondents think that they have a special responsibility for the welfare of old people and 48.8% of the participants think that old people are treated badly in Turkey. 25% of the participants described elderly people as senile. About 20% of the students think negatively about the functionality and capacities of the elderly.
