Abstract

This study was carried out to realize value education by intensifying children’s games, which are included in game and physical activity lessons, with values and to determine the effect of children’s games on values education. Forms of personal information for collection of data in the study, observation forms for use during and after games are also prepared. The observation form, which is another scale, was prepared based on the values of responsibility, self-confidence, cooperation and congratulation-respect of success values in order to determine what values the students used during and after the games. The study group of consists of 40 students from two third grade students in Ismet Paşa Primary School in Elazığ province. One of the third grades was designated as the experimental group and the other as the control group. The data obtained with the observation form were transferred to the computer environment for analysis in SPSS 22.0 package program. Frequency and percentage are used in analyzing personal information. In order to prove the equality of groups in terms of demographic data, Chi-Square test was performed. The Chi-Square test was used to determine whether there was a significant difference between the views in the comparison of the data regarding the values obtained in the observation forms in terms of experiment and control groups. Independent groups t test was applied in cases where the distribution was normal in order to determine whether there was a significant difference between the groups regarding the total scores of the values in the observation forms. Conformity test, homogeneity test (Levene Statistic) was performed to determine whether the data were in normal distribution. For when the distribution was not normal, Mann Whitney U test was performed. In addition, a cohen d based on averages and standard deviations between variables was calculated and the effect size was also analyzed and interpreted considering these results. As a result of the analysis of the observation forms, it is seen that the experiment group used the values more. In the observation forms, there were significant differences between the students in the experimental group and the control group. As a result of this study, it is seen that when the games are intensified with values, the values can be taught to the children and the values they learn can be permanent. Based on the findings of the research, suggestions for researchers and practitioners were provided.
