Abstract

Muhammad b. Suleiman al-Kurdi, who grew up in Medina was born in Damascus and he and his family migrated to Medina when he was one-year old. He was one of the omniscient men of the recent epoch of religious sect and he was chair of Shafi sect in Hijaz region. He gave lectures to the students from both close and far regions for many years in Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, wrote books, and he enlightened the people who lived in Shafi region and asked questions to him. Some of these answers could be regarded as separate works which include comprehensive explanations. Among the many works of Kurdi, al-Havâşî’l-Medeniyye and al-Fevâidu’l-Medeniyye came to the forefront. Although each piece consists of significant information, al-Fevâidu’l-Medeniyye gives original information, especially hierarchical determination about reliability of the sect and its literature in terms of trusteeship and it is an extremely important work for understanding the structure of the sect. Kurdi studied very hard on Tuhfetu’l-muhtâc of Ibn Hajar al-Haytami which is the most significant work of the sect as well as he studied on Nihâyetu’l-muhtâc of Cemâl er-Remlî and he benefited from the other works of İbn Hacer and with this feature, he became a good commentator of İbn Hajar. However, he did not hesitate to point out that Ibn Hajar occasionally had some mistaken views and he had some ideas that Kurdi did not accept them as reliable ideas. Except two works of Kurdi that we have mentioned above and epistle of him which is called as al-Fetâvâ al-Kurdiyye and al-İntibâh, the other works of him were written. Kurdi has explained who has the authority to solemnize according to Shafi sect in the four couplets of his epistle named as as-Sağru’l-bessâm. Kurdi has reached twenty-five situation in total with adding nine at first and after that adding four to twelve situation.
