Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and importance of International Credit Rating Institutions theoretically. In this context, theoretical information about these organizations will be given first and then the effects on the Countrys economy in general and on the Turkish economy in particular will be examined. They will also try to question their credibility with a critical view. With the notes given by international credit rating agencies, investors measure how safe their investment is. Therefore, according to these notes given by credit rating agencies, people will also direct their investments. As a result, they invest in countries with high ratings. However, the global crisis, which emerged in early 2007 and gained momentum in 2008, has questioned the credibility of countries with high credit ratings. Because the important institutions in the country have either gone bankrupt or have come to the brink of bankruptcy.
