Abstract

Despite the Ottoman Empire takes the political, social and economic precautions in the 18th and 19th centuries, it loses it’s land rapidly. This retreat continues until the First World War. With the Mondros Armistice Agreement signed at the end of this war, the process of actually sharing the Empire begins. In this process, with the passing of Mustafa Kemal to Anatolia on May 19, 1919, a consciousness arises against this sharing in the Turkish nation. This consciousness initiates the national struggle against the enemy. Halide Edip Adıvar's novel called " Ateşten Gömlek " is one of the important works reflecting the period of the national struggle. In this study, the traces of the journey archetype mentioned in Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces are examined in the hero called Peyami of this novel. Thus, as a writer of a different culture and geography, it has been shown that Halide Edip Adıvar used the elements of the journey archetype in the work in which she described the existence journey of the Turkish nation.
