Abstract

Material costs are much more than half of the construction costs in the architecture. The material emerges as an important matter in construction due to this perspective. Sustainable architecture, which has been becoming increasingly widespread recently and prioritizing the conservation of energy and resources, deals with the construction materials which are the components that make the construction with another feature of them. Within the framework of this understanding, the materials are not only expected to meet technical requirements, but they are also expected to be environment-friendly in terms of the sustainability of the construction, to be local in terms of accessibility, and to be recyclable in terms of reusability. On this basis, designers may prefer waste or recycled materials in their designs, therefore the building envelope and indoor space are affected by this approach. This approach refers to the process of conversion of materials that were produced to be used in the construction or for other purposes into construction materials, after they complete their economic life by a reproduction process and reusing them again. The effective conduct of this process can decrease the material cost of the construction and contribute to the sustainability by reducing the consumption of natural resources. In this study, the innovative opportunities offered by the waste and recycled construction materials for the sustainability were presented through selected samples.
