Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of the argumentative textual structuring teaching on the ability of the 5th grade students to write argumentative texts. In the study "pretest-posttest single group experimental model" was used. The working group of the study is composed of twenty, 5th grade students who are educated at the Tekler Üzümlü Secondary School in Erciş, Van province, in the academic year of 2014-2015. At the end of the research, there has been a great increase in the level of students' debatable text structure and the formation of argumentative text after the teaching process. This increase was statistically significant. According to the survey, as a result of the text structure teaching process of the 5th grade students, the level of "data" from the basic elements of the argumentative text increased from 0% to 60%. The level of "claim" generation increased from 70% to 90%. The level of making "counter-claims" increased from 40% to 80%. The level of "result" unit creation increased from 0% to 35%. According to the results of the research, argumentative text structure teaching has had a great effect on the ability of 5th grade students to write successful debating texts.
