Abstract

The use of daylight in architecture is evidenced by different building typologies in the historical periods, especially through openings in the tops of buildings and spaces in their surfaces. As an architectural element, the skylight has the potential to be considered as a design element within these types of uses. The skylight, which means ‘sunroof’ and ‘light’, can be defined as a window order/void searching. In recent years, however, it has come to be reinterpreted as an interface through which the distinction between public and private becomes permeable, interpreted in different functions and forms. In this context, the aim of this paper to exemplify the use of skylight as an interface in terms of interior-exterior relations in architecture. The use of the skylight by architect Ferran Vizoso as a design element has been analyzed through the residential project 4 Porches and 4 Skylights and the restoration project Sant Pere Church in Spain. As an important example of daylight use in architecture, skylight aims to reveal an architect’s anatomy with two different typologies through such design examples.
