THE TURKISH, FARSI AND ARABIC BASED WORDS IN IBRAHİM ARISOYS'S GEORGIAN-TURKISH DICTIONARY

Abstract

Georgians ans Turks are two nations that have deep relationship with a very long history of coexistence and their languages bear the traces of this historic bond. In both languages, dictionaries are main sources of standard language's vocabulary. Based on this, to determine the words, passed from Turkish to Georgian's standard language, the Georgian-Turkish dictionary was scanned that was published by Turkish Language Society in 2010 and prepared by Ibrahim Arısoy and totaly 519 stated words were subjected to thematic dissection which were Turkish, Farsi and Arabic based. In the dictionary, the number of the words that passed from Turkish to Georgian is 137, the number of Farsi based words is 148, number of Arabic based words is 234 and these words are used in same or different meanings in Turkish today. According to this, the number of Arabic and Farsi based words, passed from Turkish and its dialects to Georgian, are more than the number of Turkish based words. In the study, Turkish, Farsi and Arabic words that were passed from Turkish to Georgian and the language interaction between Turkish-Georgian and their charasteristics were generally discoursed.
