Abstract

In this article, Armenians politics of Russia during the Ottoman period and the effects of the Russian-Armenian politics on the Turkish- Armenian relations have been evaluated. Russia which considered Ottoman Empire as its arch rival, endeavored to set up a Christian buffer zone between Russia and the Ottoman Empire for its own security. Russia exploited Armenians for this aim and changed the population structure of the Caucasia by settling Persian and Ottoman Armenians to the region especially following Türkmençay and Edirne agreements. On the other hand Russia tried to disconnect the Armenians from the Ottoman Empire and annex the land on which they lived to the Russian Empire. In this context Russia played an important role to provoke the Armenians for riot against the Ottoman Empire.
