Abstract

Having the signs of both Turkish Folk Music and Turkish Art Music, Elazığ-Harput Music is a “bridge type” of music that can change over between these two music genres. Clarinet is identified with Harput Music and it has been a great contributor to Harput Music’s being bridge type of music. Particularly, Clarinet performs Harput Folk Dances Music in the style of Turkish Folk Music. However, Harput Music is performed by the concept of “fasıl” (chapters) and its examples played by Turkish Art Music Instruments. Clarinet is categorized as one type of Turkish Folk Music Instruments and it is performed with the style of Turkish Folk Music. It is even called as "chief instrument" and performed more dominantly than the other musical instruments. Affecting “the saz team” (a group of musicians who perform together), performing Turkish Art Music Instruments, Clarinet has helped a musical variety to come up which is listened by the audience, and known as a style of Turkish Folk Music. Hereby, we think that the most important reason why Harput Music is not exactly in the style of Turkish Folk Music or Turkish Art Music is the Clarinet. This is due to the fact that Clarinet gives Harput Music a "bridge type" feature.
