Abstract

In this research, it was studied to construct the sequencing of the Disabled-Friendly Cities in order to ascertain what kind of effect does the policies and implementations to increase the community involvement for the disabled, constructed by central and local administrators have in the fields that are critical important for the disabled. Health, economics, education and quality of life are defined as the main categories in providing the participation of the disabled in social life. The scores in these categories of all cities in Turkey were calculated by using a total of 30 indicators including 10 in the health category, 4 in the economic category, 5 in the education category and 11 in the Quality of Life category. In our study, Tunceli is in the 1st place and Isparta is the 47th place in the order of the cities with the most disabled according to the province population in Turkey. Meanwhile, Isparta is the 1st place and Tunceli 60th place in the list of disabled friendly cities. In the regional order, the Marmara region has the least disabled in terms of population but it is the 1st region in the disabled-friendly region order. As a result, there is a negative relationship between the population density of the cities and the disability-friendly structures. We think that making local governments' projects on making cities handicapped-friendly will be useful in finding out and eliminating deficiencies in this issue.
