Abstract

Parents, who are responsible for the developments and educations of their children, are their first teachers. The school on the other hand takes on the task of providing multi-directional education of the child. Family participation can be defined as all kinds of multi-dimensional communication and interaction pattern between the school and the family. With family participation, building up the interaction between the school and the family the child lives in and taking an active role by the family is emphasized. It can be said that presently, family participation is considered as an important part of the education, the active participation of the families in their children’s education contributes to their whole education particularly, their academic success and therefore teachers and parents should be informed and it is necessary to raise their awareness. Family participation includes phone calls made to provide school family cooperation, participating in in-class activities, news bulletin and parents meeting.
