WOMEN'S POSITION AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT BARRIERS IN WORKING LIFE

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the place of women in their working life and their career development. In the first part of the study, the statistics about the female employees were used to determine the position of the women in working life. In the second part, the barriers for career development of women were discussed. According to the findings obtained from the research, it was found that although the female ratio is 49.8% of the population in Turkey, their percentage is low in theworking life and the yare not as effective as in the "otherhalf" of the population. The ratio of women in the vocational and technical positions, decision making mechanisms and also in parliament is also extremely low. It was determined that even in professions such as banking and teaching where the number of female employees is very high, female employees are not included in senior management positions and they face with glassceiling.
