Initially, the caricature served as the "voice of the people". Cartoonists passed through their drawings the problems of the common people, exposing the mistakes and bad deeds of those in power. Now the caricature appears before us in the form of an "apple of discord", generating ridiculous pictures of dubious content.In our time, the caricature remains the most massive form of art. To determine this is not difficult, it is enough to buy any newspaper in any kiosk and on its pages we will see articles on the most topical topics of the day with illustrations of rather "poisonous" pictures. A feature of the cartoon can be called a multiple strengthening of journalistic thought, its sharpening. The article considers the artistic, cultural and political aspects of the caricature, the early stages of development of this genre and its primary forms. History of the birth of a caricature which has been tested for long centuries, it’s very ancient and rich history are analyzed in this article. The particular attention is paid to importance of this unique genre.
