Translation Studies Departments in Turkey try to train competent translators/interpretors by helping the students gain the mentioned competincies and/or improve the ones they have.In this article being good at using translation technologies was emphasized. In addition, using mother tongue efficiently and being competent in the language of the source text are accepted as common skills in translation. Being competent in the mother tongue is closely related with the cultural background of the translator. Students can be trained in such a way that helps them to be familiar with new words belonging to different disciplines. The more they get various input, the more they will gain world knowledge. Keeping this in mind, the course contents of Translation Studies Departments in Turkey are discussed.
