ADAPTATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL DISSENT SCALE INTO TURKISH: THE STUDY OF VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to test reliability and validity of “Instructional Dissent Scale” developed by Goodboy (2011a). For adaptation firstly, the original scale was translated to Turkish, then the opinions of the experts in the fields of language, content, assessment and evaluation were got. After doing some changes according to the recommendations of the experts, the scales were applied to a group of teaching candidates who were studying in the 3rd grade of English Teaching Department of Dicle University Ziya Gökalp Education Faculty in order to determine in practice whether the Turkish form and the English form had the same meaning. The scale provided with linguistic equivalence (r = .70) was applied to 440 students who were studying at the official high schools in Diyarbakır province center, however 424 of the scales were evaluated. Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was fixed as 0.80 and split test method reliability as 0.73. At the result of the validity and reliability analysis, it has been determined that the scale is a valid and reliable tool which can be used in determining the instructional dissent perceptions of the students who study at the schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Turkey.
