Abstract

Cahit Zarifoglu (1940-1987) is one of the eminent poets of the 20th Century. He put his signature of our modern poetry under important successes in four of his published books of poems as in Children of Signs (1967), Seven Pretty Men (1973), Ranges (1977), Fear and Entreaty (1985). Even if the impressions of the Second New poets are noticed especially in his first poems, the poetic intellect and tone that he had created in time effected both the poets of his period and and the poets who came after him. Cahit Zarifoglu, with his exceptional and strong expressional manner also wrote on children’s literature. The poet has comments on matters like children’s happiness, love and reliance that they feel to other members of the family, griefs, fears, isolations that come up in the modern family order, anxieties about future, the victimhood that occur in social disorders like war and migration. In this works he reflects children’s psychology and sensitivity in a very simple language. Cahit Zarifoglu’s poems which he wrote for children was published as a book in two volumes after his death.
