Abstract

One of the most important stages in the research process in social sciences is undoubtedly the sampling phase. In this research, sampling theory whose basic purpose is to render sampling process more effective and useful form, is handled. In the study, unit, universe, sample, sampling unit, observation unit, frame, statistic and parameter, confidence level, sampling (reasons for sampling, what to consider when sampling, stages of sampling) and sample size are enlightened. In addition, probability-based sampling (simple random sampling, stratified sampling and cluster sampling) and non-probability-based sampling (convenience sampling, quoto sampling, purposive sampling; extreme or deviant case sampling, maximum variation sampling, homogeneous sampling, typical case sampling, criterion sampling, critical case sampling and snowball sampling from purposeful sampling methods) methods are discussed and examples related to these methods are given in the research
