Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine 5, 6, 7, 8 th grade Imam-Hatip Secondary School students’ metaphorical perceptions about Arabic as a foreign language and whether the perception of the students differ de-pending on gender and grade. The sample of the study consists of 157 Isparta Central Imam-Hatip Secondary School students in 2015-2016 educational year. As a the qualitative research design, phenemon was utilized. The data were collected through a semi structured meta-phor form. 157out of 195 forms were included in the study. Metaphors were analyzed through content analysis. Participants in the research developed 98 metaphors for the concept of Arabic. Content analysis revelad that participants' Arabic perceptions as a foreign language seem to be collected under 5 categories. Namely material-tool, requirement, difficulty-complexity, spirituality, entertainment.
