EFFECT OF NOMOPHOBIA ON DURATION OF DAILY SMARTPHONE USAGE AND SCHOOL SUCCESS: THE EXAMPLE OF HEALTH PERSONNEL CANDIDATES

Abstract

Nomofobi (No Mobile Phobia) described as a suffer from lack of mobile phone, is one of the modern fears of the 21st century. Most of the work done on the nomenophobia is related to the students because the group suffered the most from the nomophobia. Some of negative effects can low school success and overuse of the smartphone. The main aim of study in this context is to examine the effect of nomophobia on duration of daily smartphone usage and school success. Participants of the study consist of 195 students studying in health related departments. The Nomophobia Scale developed by Yildirim & Correia, and adopted to Turkish by Yildirim, Sumuer, Adnan and Yildirim was used in this study. In order to analyze the data were used to T-test, ANOVA and Structural Equation Model. According to the analysis results; the mean value obtained from the nomophobia scale was higher than the mean values obtained from the nomophobia subscales. Our findings show that "can not be online" subdimension is predict as negatively to school success; but it predict as positively to duration of daily smartphone usage. Other findings were presented in the article.
