Abstract

The language teaching program, materials, learning environment are importantand cannot be limited to students, books and teachers. Now a days, in language teaching, instead of traditional teacher-centered and grammatica lmethods different practices have been used. In these applications, methods which prioritize communication skills development, speaking and listening are applied. Using theater and drama in foreign language teaching is one of the studies that aim to do this. Theater and drama influences the learner's language and social development positively by taking language learning out of the classroom. In this study, the texts using idioms, proverbs and stereotyped expressions with the current events from the life, and the applications of these texts are studied. With this method, the student learns target structures by using not only verbal but also body language. TV programs, newspaper news, and cultural reflections in the background were used in the creation of the theater texts. In this study, visual formats of application works as well as written examples of these texts are given. Theater is the reflection of the life, art and culture and the importance of theater and drama in language teaching cannot be denied.
