Abstract

An important component of the rapidly growing class of services of the world economy is aviation sector. Air transport is a very important global transportation medium, in terms of trade and tourism. The economics contribution of the aviation industry is very important in terms of economic analysis when considering the infrastructure investments and institutional structure that it requires, the volume of employment it provides, the effects on other sectors of the economy. In this study, it was aimed to measure the effect of airline passenger demand and cargo transportation on economic growth from the indicators of air transport in the Turkish economy during 1967-2015 period. According to the results of the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) Granger causality test, in the long run, the aviation sector has achieved economic growth in a one-way and positive direction.
