Abstract

Odes, as a basic form of the Divan Literature, are a fundamental building block of our culture with its intensive meaning and exclusive literary and musical structure. This study provided information about odes and two sample odes were analyzed. The study first tried to depict what an ode is and how it is structured. After providing brief information about the ode, a short literary analysis was conducted on two sample odes, which was followed by a short examination of the ode in terms of its musical elements. The ode was also analyzed for its mode, form, course and performance. As a conclusion of the study, evaluations and comments were made about the odes analyzed. According to the findings obtained from the analysis, it can be understood that different words such as “ah”, “yar”, “ey yar” can be used in the beginning and last musical sentences different from the main words. Furthermore analyzed odes are showed all the melodic route specifications of the maqams.
