Abstract

Anthropology examines the biological and socio-cultural similarities and differences of mankind and today's and past's societies. The ancient DNA (aDNA) studies started with the use of bio-archeological materials being taken out in the archeological and anthropological excavations in the genetic studies with this science which examines people biologically. Especially, the questions which are wondered on the people history started to be answered as aDNA studies took the place in the field of anthropology. The multi-disciplinary studies have occurred between the sciences such as biyolog and social sciences such as anthropology with the development of technology in the field of genetic. The determination of sex which is the base for the identification in these studies is very important for anthropology. The gender of persons were searched as the examinations and genetic analyses were done on 10 persons from the people's skeletons which were taken out of the Giresun Island/ Khalkeritis Excavation necropolis area and which were dated as Byzantine Period in this study.
