Abstract

As soon as human beings are born, they begin to search for various communication paths to describe their feelings, requests and thoughts. Firstly, they use body language, and then a more systematic structure which is called the "langue". Later, they learn foreign languages to communicate with other communities. In order to to use these, words, phrases, sounds, signs, symbols, and various items such as pictures and objects are used by them. This case occurs for both the native language and foreign language learning in a similar way. On the other hand, while foreign language teaching or learning takes place in schools, developing language skills, acquiring knowledge and skills in a foreign language, refers to tools designed in different ways to communicate. There are a lot of advantages of using audio-visual tools; they draw attention to the students, facilitate and reinforce learning, allow for be the permanency of the foreign language learning in their mind. Also with attention to ages, interests of the students and materials prepared according to the language levels, more effectively language teaching can be realized. The rationale for using tools is based on Dale’s Cone of Experience. It is a visual model. He made several contributions to audio and visual instruction, including a methodology for analysing the content of motion pictures. Audio-visual tools appeal a sense or more. Shortly, using tools contribute to the foreign language teaching or learning. Language learning and teaching is a complex and difficult process in our country. Audio-visual materials used for learning a language and teaching one have been widely used by teachers and students. They have been the important resources of teaching or learning and self-study. Nowadays, the use of them and its integration into the curriculum has gained a great importance. Especially, the use of audio-visuals materials in a foreign language teaching classroom has grown rapidly because of the increasing emphasis on communicative techniques.
