Abstract

The names of the Shaykhs are from al-Shaykh who is the father of İsa b. al-Shaykh al-Salil belonging to Banû Shaybān, a branch of the Arab Rebia tribe. The founder of the state İsa b. al-Shaykh the name of whom, for the first time was found in the army that had been sent to repress the rebellion emerged by Muhammad b. Buʿays in the period of Abbasid Caliph Mutawakkil (232-247 / 847-861). After successes in suppressing this rebellion, he struggled with the Kharijites and found himself in the battles towards to Byzantine border. İsa, who continued his activities around Damascus and Palestine during the transition to the caliphate of Mu'tazz (252-255 / 866-869), had to go to Egypt without being able to stand against the army sent to him because he did not ally the new caliph. İsa, who was later assigned to Diyar Bakr and Armenia, began to act independently in Diyar Bakr and benefiting from the conflicts in Armenia, he extended his borders to the Van Lake basin. After İsa died in 882, his son Ahmed became the Amir and in the period of whom Taron (Muş) was seized. When Ahmed passed away in 898, Caliph Mu'tazid (279-289 / 892-902) seized Amid and Mayyâfârīkîn from his son Muhammad, who replaced Ahmed, and ended the Shaykhs.
