Abstract

This article investigates the causes and economic and social consequences of the Hundred Years war. After a brief sketch of the history of the Hundred Years War, I evaluate the evidence of the causes of the war. Then, economic and social consequences of the war are elaborated. Feudal elements clearly affected the start of the war. England’ sea power also played a major role in the war. Economically, the war created many problems both for England and France. Accordingly these two countries had to respond to these problems differently. England resonded by raising taxation and France’s response was to debase the value of the coin. The Hundred Years War also affected the social structure of both countries. Towards the end of the war, the war practice of the nations in question started to change. Technological developments affected to this change.
