Abstract

Community centres, one of the cultural institutions of the Republican era, undertook an important task of consolidating the foundations of the new Republic at every corner of the country, integrating the people, and unifying them around a common ideology. On the other hand, the community centres turned to the culture of the people in order to bring together the community within the National Pact in a common national consciousness. People were turned to with the approach/idea that the intact essence of culture of the people lies in villages; that is, with the 19th century romantic nationalist point of view that emerged in Europe and cultural products that people had produced for centuries were gathered together with the studies, which the language and literature branch of community centres conducted in the city centres and especially in the villages. On the other hand, community centres both published articles regarding the education of the people (public health, livestock raising etc.) and included the cultural materials they gathered in the journals which they printed with the limited opportunities of the city in which they were founded. One of these journals is the journal named "Çorumlu" published by Çorum Community Centre between 1938 and 1946. In this study, the texts related to the music in the Çorumlu Journal were evaluated in terms of topic, context and content; in particular, the belonging of the works compiled with the title of "Çorum türküleri" (“Çorum folk songs”) to the region was opened for discussion.
