Abstract

The Ottoman Empire carried out construction activities on a large scale not only on the Balkan Peninsula but also in Anatolia and Middle East. The most obvious evidences of these activities are the extant monuments and the inscriptions on them. One of the cities where the Ottoman Empire carried out construction activities the most is Sivas. In the city, there are many monuments that had been built from the beginning of the Ottoman rule up to 20th century. In this study, the inscriptions of monuments constructed by Ottomans in the 16th century in Sivas have been chosen as a subject. In this context, ten inscriptions belonging to that period were attained during the literature review and field work. Seven of these inscriptions belong to mosques, two to hamams and one to a fountain. While eight of these inscriptions are preserved on the monuments, two of them were noted in the historical sources and have not reached today.
