Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool for instructors regarding providing a positive classroom atmosphere. Preliminary expressions prepared in 5-point Likert type along this purpose were applied on 221 prospect teachers (students at the faculty of education) for explanatory factor analysis; and on 230 prospect teachers (students at the faculty of education) for confirmatory factor analysis, and obtained data were analyzed. Conducted factor analysis suggested that the scale was with single factor referred as “providing positive classroom atmosphere”. According to the item analysis results based on the total item correlation, it was determined that all items included in the preliminary application were qualified to be included in the ultimate scale. Whereas factor loadings of items of the scale were range between 0.63 and 0.86, internal validity coefficients based on the total item correlation were in the range of 0.60 and 0.84. In terms of internal consistency, Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient was determined as 0.97. All these findings suggested that developed “Scale for Instructors’ Proficiencies of Providing Positive Classroom Atmosphere (SIPPPCA)” could be employed in measurement of instructors’ (or teachers’ if the scale is adapted) proficiencies regarding providing of positive classroom atmosphere.
