Abstract

In this study, a modeling was formed between the skill of university students to create arguments and the skills of critical thinking, creative thinking and problem solving. The study sample consists of 84 preservice teachers studying at Ahi Evran University Faculty of Education. The data were collected by using Toulmin’s argumentation model, scale of critical thinking skill, scale of creative thinking skill and scale of problem solving skill. The relationships between the skill of argumentation and the skills of critical thinking, creative thinking and problem solving were revealed via correlation analysis and the model was tested via structural equation modeling. At the end of the correlation analysis, the relationship of the skill of argumentation was determined as (r=,729, p˂,01) with the skill of critical thinking, (r=,734, p˂,01) with the skill of creative thinking and (r=,788, p˂,01) with the skill of problem solving. Model adaptation values were determined as (χ2=161.66, df=74, p=.00, RMSEA=.068, GFI=.92, AGFI=.88, CFI=.97, NFI=.96, NNFI=.97; SRMR=.019). These results show that the model formed between the skills of critical thinking, creative thinking and problem solving is confirmed.
