Abstract

Education is a cornerstone in the construction of a nation’s future. The nations which attach importance to education are developed and qualified. While those nations which stay up to date with developments in information and technology fields are developed, the nations which fail to renew themselves fall behind. Therefore, investments made in education are highly important. Turkey’s population has been growing since the foundation of the Republic. Increase in population has led to an increase in the number of students, schools, and teachers and thus raised educational costs. In addition, the amount allocated for teachers’ salary has risen as a result of increased number of teachers. Likewise, the funds appropriated by the government for a quality education have increased. However, not the same amount of investment has been made in education in all periods of the Republic. For example, there is a big difference between the amount allocated for education in 1945 and that allocated for it today. In this regard, it is very important to examine educational investments in Turkey from the perspective of educational geography.
