COMPARISON OF ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP VALUES OF PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHING AND SOCIAL SCIENCE TEACHING

Abstract

The purpose of this study is the comparison of adoptation of the active citizenship values of the Departments of Classroom Teacher and Social Studies Studies Students from Adnan Menderes University. The research has been done in survey model in order to state the present condition. Active Citizenship Values Measure, which is developed by the researcher, has been used. Measurement has been applied to 330 students in total of which 183 are Social Studies Teacher Candidates and 147 are Classroom Teacher candidates. 129 of teacher candidates are female, 201 of them are male. In this measurement, participants’ membership to non-governmental organizations voting attitudes, classes and monthly income have been also investigated. In this measurement 4 factors have been found as a result of explatory factor analyze. These factors, have been indicated as, Republic, Valuing of Active Citizenship, Discrimination and Supporting. In the analyzes, unrelated random T Test and Simplex ANOVA have been used. In the result of analyzes, it is revealed that candidates of Classroom Teacher are embracing the Republic value more than the didates of the Social Studies Teacher. According to the discrimination aspect, within the Prospective Classroom Tearchers, it is revealed that within the activite citizenship of females are more positive compared to males, observing discrimination making averages. According to the aspect of Republic, male candidates of Classroom Teacher are observed to be more positive compared to female candidates. Within the candidates of Social Studies Teacher, it is revealed that, females are giving more importance to active citizenship in Valuing terms compared to male candidates. There is no significant result in a variable except the gender. With this research, it has been considered that, citizenship classes as insufficient to give citizenship consciousness to the teacher candidates and these problems are grounded on primary school level.
