Abstract

Rasim Özdenören is one of the pioneer and important figures in Turkish literatüre. In his works, he often makes use of cultural disintegration caused by modernization and the phenomenon of self-alienation. This approach is also pursued in his only novel Gül Yetiştiren Adam (Rose Breeding Man). Alienation, with the original meaning as the result of cultural degeneration is the name of the psychological sense which takes away the person to the outside world and makes unfamiliar with himself and the outside world. In this study, Rasim Özdenören’s novel, Gül Yetiştiren Adam (Rose Growing Man), alienation and estrangement caused by self-seeking will be analyzed. The present work was written between 1970 and 1978 with ideological polarizations that is heavily present throughout the period.
