Abstract

Although there is a vast literature about opera singer's formant found in opera singers, it is seen that there is no enough research about speaker's/actor's formant that found in non-operatic singing and vocal styles. This fact are caused to some questions to remain unanswered, such as, what sorts of the laringeal position strategies can be used in development process of a methodology, applicable in the voice training practices in singing and vocal performance styles that use a voice quality containing speaker's/actor's formant. In this study, the role of glottal variables on the production of speaker's/actor's formant, in its relation to the vertical position of larynx was scrutinized. At a theoretical level it was evaluated, that because it's negative effect on the energy level of high (3-4 kHz) region of spectrum through causing increased vocal folds adduction, thinned vocal folds, and decreased CQ value, the lowered larynx like as used by opera singers, at the glottal level has a negative role on the production of speaker's/actor's formant. From this point of the fact, it was concluded that the lowered larynx must not be used in the voice training processes of singing and vocal styles that has speaker's/actor's formant phenomenon in their performance voice.
