Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze landslide susceptibility of Arguvan district and its close surroundings. Arguvan district (Malatya) had to change place due to the danger of active landslides in 1967, 1977 and 1988. However, active landslides in the district still pose threat for settlement areas. It is an indispensable fact that areas with landslide susceptibility should be determined due to the ongoing danger of landslide in Arguvan district. In planning studies to be conducted in the areas adversely affected by landslides, susceptibility maps which show possible places of landslides under the effect of environmental variables bring great contribution to reduce the negative effects of landslides. Along with inventory maps, these maps create the beginning stage of the studies which are conducted to reduce damages of landslides. In this study, Digital Elevation Model(DEM),geology map and satellite images have been used as data. A landslide susceptibility map has been created for Arguvan District using multi-criteria decision analysis, lithology, slope, elevation, topographical moisture index and vegetation layers. While creating susceptibility map, weights of layers have been determined and with these layers overlaid the result map has been created. According to the result map, the investigation field has 2.13% very low, 14.26% low, 21.08 % medium, 49.69 % high and 12.811% very high landslide susceptibility. The landslide susceptibility map and landslide inventory map were compared in order to analyze the landslide susceptibility map. At the end of this comparison, it was seen that of all current landslides, 74 % take place in areas with medium, high and very high susceptibility. These results prove the validity of the study.
