Abstract

The conciousness of environment in Turkish history goes back to the Turkish States established in middle Asia. Islamic principles and rules that play a role in shaping the Islamic Civilization became effective to form the decisions of the Ottoman administrators about the environment. According to the Islamic values system, a muslım person is not only responsible to God but also responsible to the society he lives in and the environment as well. The traditions, religion and the culture of the Turkish-Islamic States established before the Ottoman State reflected to the environmental conciosness and culture of the Ottoman (Özdemir,2002; Yediyıldız,2008). The environmental conciousness among Muslim Turks is seen as the protection of the whole nature in its original status, increasing the greenlands through planting trees in the gardens and parks, the protection of the habitats of the animals, establishing the cities in convenient places with a well designed plan, and obeying all cleanlines
