Along the history of Turkish poem history this issue, had become a tradition. Proverbs and idioms not only reveal the richness of expression of Turkish they also reflect the cultural structure of society to which it belongs such as traditions, thoughts and beliefs. A good number of Ottoman poets who had been critisized because of being stayed out of society used proverbs and idioms by adhering to this tradition. Derzizâde Ulvî, a 16th century poet whom we examined in our study, continued this tradition by using these proverbs and idioms, which are widely used in folk culture, in his poems. The proverbs and idioms of Ulvî, a significant savings in terms of proverbs and idioms, which were used in’s Divan have been identified in our study. Proverbs, were assessed with sample texts.
