Abstract

Özker Yaşın is one of the prominent authors of Northern Cyprus Turkish literature. In the works of this poet, who has witnessed all politically volatile periods of the Island, one can easily see the reflections of all these incidents. Especially, in his poetry, the poet depicts with live scenes, the years of struggle of Turkish Cypriot , their agony, longings and their gratitude to Turkey, and brought a new dimension to Turkish poetry with these new features. Yaşin’s poetry focuses also on some kind of a Mediterranean issues. He is a Cypriot Turk whose childhood was spent amidst Turkish-Greek conflicts. In his poems, he sometimes remembers the jasmines of the Island with their amazing odor and sometimes memorializes the martyrs. There’s nothing more natural than literature and a man of letters to be influenced by the society he lives in and the events that take place in that society. And Yaşın’s poems carry such thematic rich content.
