Abstract

“Deer motif” which is counted as mythological, sometimes auspicious while sometimes cursed came to Anatolia from Middle Asia together with migration. Most of the beliefs about “deer” before Turks became Muslim were kept on after the Turks became Muslim and became an important element of Anatolian culture by becoming an Islamic figure. In the article, how sacred “deer motif” is used as an element of a game- sacrifice animal, descent, defense against evil eye, guidance and metaphor in art, architecture, literature will be explained with examples and how it passes through to rural theatrical play originating from rituals will be emphasized. In the play GeyiklerLanetler (Deer-Curse), whose main motif is “deer”, in which functions Murathan Mungan used this motif will be studied.
