Abstract

Fevzipaşa neighborhood that is one of the oldest settlements of Çanakkale and is situated around Çimenlik Castle, as a legacy from history, being an inhabiting that has hosted the Western Roman communities, draws an attention. With the urbanization of Dardanelles, this neighborhood which is in the center of the city, is also an important stopover of Romani musicians. The research question of how the social and cultural life is reflected that is developed here depending on the practice of music, underpins of this research. As a matter of effect, in this research, on the basis of dilemma and perceptions of Gyps-Romani, standing on the Romani musician’s identity living in Fevzipaşa neighborhood of Çanakkale, is intended to determine the self-image of musicians here, according to their position in neighborhood and city, language acquisition and performance capacity, to what extend varies.
