Abstract

The aim of this study is to research the novelties in theatre, heroic plays and comedy of manners which developed in the Restoration era. In England the theatres were closed for eighteen years because of the Civil war which started in 1642. For that reason a lot of people who were interested in theatre had to leave England and moved to France. The period when the theatres were closed was also the Interregnum, since the monarchy tradition that lasted for centuries was absent between 1649 and 1660. When the monarchy was re-established in 1660,namely the Restoration, the theatres were opened again because the new king Charles II was interested in amusement and plays. When the theatres in Enland re-opened again, new plays were written.Besides the plays, the politic views of the Restoration era are mentioned in this study.
