Abstract

Principles of Economic has a trigger function at the reduction of a coreferential linguistic units. However, the reduction of a coreferential arguments may contain some limitation. This study, is focused on the potential limitation of the argument reduction (deletion or decrease) process observed in Turkish coreferential coordinate sentences. Certain limitations were observed in the reduction of the coreferential syntactic arguments (such as subject, object and comlement) which appear in the first sentence of the coordinate sentence. For example, one of these limitations is the requirement of double reduction which asserts that the object will not be reduced unless the subject is reduced. It is also found out that these limitations exhibit a hierarchical structure on the basis of syntactic arguments. This hierarchy, is called as Syntactic Position Hierarchy in the Reduction of Coreferential Argument. This hierarchy is formed as Subject > Direct Object (-I > -Ø) > Indirect Object > Comp
