Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to determine the value components highlighted by fifth grade students while expressing their feelings about the Çanakkale Victory on its 100th anniversary in their essays. In the present study, document analysis was used to collect data which is one of the qualitative research methods. 54 students participated to study. Students’ compositions were used as the data collection tool. Descriptive analysis method was preferred. According to results, 132 value components contain 14 different values [patriotism (f=27), sensitivity (f=21), love (f=19), responsibility (f=18), independence / freedom (f=11), give importance to family unity (f=7), respect (f=7), benevolence (f=6), solidarity (f=3), scientific (f=2), being hardworking (f=2), tolerance (f=2) and honesty (f=1)] are determined in the essays of the students.
