Abstract

The adventure of westernization of Ottoman was shaped by leading of administrators and this shaping kept growing continually without slowing down. While westernization grew as a problem in time, the highbrows and thinkers of the era didn’t hesitate to express the faults of this process. Westernization which was changing continually and damaging tradition and values was sometimes cricitized and was expressed that it should be kept doing according to a certain program. Critical view for change sometimes followed a path in terms of comparison of West-East. Elements belonging to Western Civilization which was accepted and respected in some aspects was started to cricitize in time. While the sides in which East was superior to West was focused on by comparing many topics in terms of East-West, the sides which West had problems were put forward. Events experienced in socio-cultural structure took its place in the novels of era.
