Abstract

In this study, which contains the conclusions of the field research conducted in Turkmenistan, the significance of horse that is an important part of the life among the Turkmen society, from past to date has been analysed in details. Thus, being core part of the trinity of “horse, wife and arm” that forms the concentrated statement of the Turkish culture, horse has continued to preserve its significance throughout the course of history. Being an inseparable part of the Turkmen life in health, illness and death, the horse was also main sacrificial animal that was offered the Turkish skygod “Göktengri”. Thus, when the way of life of the ancient Turks are examined, it is noticed that they have formed both mundane and celestial affiliations with the horse.
