Abstract

This study was designed to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 (GPIUS2), which was developed by Caplan (2010). The scale was applied to 388 students at Maltepe University and Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey. Pearson's correlation between Turkish and English versions of the scale indicated acceptable reliability. The original scale was formed of five sub-scales. The results of factor analysis for construct validity of the scale addressed four dimensional constructs with 15 items. The items of “Cognitive preoccupation” and “Compulsive internet use” sub-scales of the original scale were summed under one sub-scale named as “self control deficiency”. Cronbach Alpha internal consistency reliability was found .89 for the total of GPIUS2. The results were indicated that Turkish Version of GPIUS2 is a valid and reliable scale.
