Abstract

The Gender Studies in literature and linguistics, as in some other areas, bring new perspectives for analysis, text analysis and interpretation. Especially in the study of modern and postmodern literature this approach may lead to new findings while focusing on the social and biological differences in gender identity. The aim of this study is to examine a narrative serving as a pattern to the writing style of one of the famous representatives of the modern literature, Arthur Schnitzler, in the light of the approaches of the Gender Studies that have developed into scientific discipline out of humanities and social sciences in the second half of the 20th century. As a result of this analysis the author aims to show how Schnitzler who was interested throughout his life with psychoanalysis and psychology and used the phenomenon of sexuality in his works treats the phenomenon from the perspective of the Gender Studies.
