Abstract

In its first years Turkish cinema has found its subjects from plays and novels and began to be affected by the works admired by the world over time. Especially the Turks imitating the West tried to re-produce the successful fantastical and science-fictional movies achieved to draw attention of the target audience. However because of the lack of techniques and technicians, they are labeled as “bad” movies by the critics when compared to the contemporaries in the world. Referencing Hollywood, the movies called “Turkeywood” came into life by sometimes being inspired and sometimes adapted by novels, and movies and sometimes quoting scenes mot-a-mot from them. Although considered as a sub-kind of World cinema, “Turkeywood” hasn’t a precise definition but it’s defined as adaptations of fantastical and science-fictional works into Turkish cinema. In this context in order to contribute to the literature it is tried to define “Turkeywood” and to form a list of the movies fit in this categ
